She was born St. Louis and moved rapidly to New York City when she was only two days old. In 1991 she graduated from Barnard College with a degree in art historical studies. The same year she started an entry-level position at An American Place. Guarnaschelli started her career in the kitchen by watching as she watched the mother of her, who was in charge of editing cookbooks at the time and test a variety of recipes. She interned as a sous chef under Larry Forgione and then at numerous restaurants across New York France and Los Angeles such as Guy Savoy's La Butte Chaillot. She was eventually appointed the executive chef of Butter. Guarnaschelli was a contestant in 2007's Farmers Market Battle on Food Network's Iron Chef America, where she was up against Cat Cora. In the following years, she's appeared in the program as an guest judge. In addition, she participated in The Next Iron Chef Season Four in 2011, when she placed third. She also competed on The Food Network Challenge Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast episode but was eliminated from the event. She was promoted to sous-chef for Iron chef Geoffrey Zakarian following the 4th season of The Next Iron Chef. In 2008, she was chosen as host for The Food Network's The Cooking Loft.
